Wi: journal of mobile media (pronounced wī) was founded in 2006 as in-house publication of the Mobile Digital Commons Network (MDCN) and has since operated under the aegis of the Mobile Media Lab. The Lab has two nodes, one in Montreal (www.mobilities.ca) and one in Toronto (www.mobilemedialab.ca).Wi is an open- access peer-reviewed experimental journal. The mandate of the journal is to create an interdisciplinary international dialogue for scholars to explore the “term” mobilities in all of its many manifestations, although the history of the journal indicates an emphasis on the connection of mobilities research to media studies, the media arts and communications. We are particularly interested in publishing works that use media (images, sounds, animations) as a major component of their articles, although this is not a requirement.
Submit
Wi is published twice a year, typically in the spring and the fall. Articles included in each issue are sent out for peer-review. The peer-review process takes approximately 6 weeks. The only exception to our peer-review policy has been for special open issues, such as “Out of the Mouths of Casseroles” I and II which were published in response to the political crisis in Québec in the spring of 2012.
ORGANIZE an ISSUE: Wi is organized around theme issues. If you would like to pitch an idea to Wi for a special issue, please contact us via the contact form.
SUBMIT to WI: If you would like to submit Wi, please send us a note of interest via the contact form. We publish:
- articles (approximately 5000 words);
- commentary or reports on projects (2000 words);
- book, media or conference reviews (1000 words) or interviews;
- experimental media works, data visualizations, photo-essays and discussions of projects with links to project pages.
We are open to your ideas about how academic peer-review processes may need to transform in the era of digital media and to accommodate project-based research in the social sciences and the humanities.

Dear editorial committee,
I am inquiring about the possibility of submitting an article on educational soundwalk workshops for youth. During the spring of 2015, I conducted educational workshops as part of a drama program for youth with learning disabilities in Markham, Ontario and in an art class at an all-girls high school in Montreal. In the article, I outline the background to this research, describe the process of designing and implementing soundwalks for these youth, reflect on the outcomes of the workshops, and sketch out some of the constraints and limitations of the methods used. I developed the workshops and the article with the guidance Andra McCartney, who has helped me the define the theory and critically examine the methods used in the research. I would greatly appreciate it if you can inform me about the suitability of this paper in your journal, and the submission process.
Thank you,
Ehsan Akbari
